French-Canadians in the Civil War

Thousands of them fought in the Union Army. One was a teenager named Remi Tremblay. Years after the war, he wrote a novel about the war called Un Revenantand it?s been called the Gone With The Wind of French literature. It?s just been published in English for the first time as One Came Back. Margaret Langford, professor of French at Keene State College, is the translator. She?ll talk about the role of French-Canadians in the Civil War and the particularly interesting life of Remi Tremblay.

Edwards and Dean Stump in the North Country

Two democratic presidential candidates visited the North Country over the weekend. Senator John Edwards of North Carolina and former Vermont Governor Howard Dean used the opportunity to invoke democratic themes of decent wages and affordable healthcare. Edwards emphasized his rural background while touring the paper mill in Gorham. In North Conway, Howard Dean urged democrats to get back to their political roots. NHPR's Trish Anderton reports.
