Astronomy

From the recent discovery of a new planetoid named Sedna to the transit of Venus and the fate of the Hubble telescope, we'll take a look into the night sky and talk about all that's going on in astronomy this year. He is also co-founder of the Astronomical Society of Northern New England and writes an astronomy column for Foster's Daily Democrat called "Scanning the Heavens."

Coming Home from War

It's been over a year since the beginning of the Iraq war and almost a year and a half since fighting started in Afghanistan and the first of New Hampshire's men and women are returning from combat. We'll take a close look at the psychology of coming home from war from combat trauma and PTSD to the war protests and adaptation to civilian life. Mike's guests are Dr. Jonathan Shay, Staff psychiatrist for the Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic in Boston and author of "Odysseus in America- Combat Trauma and the Trials of Homecoming" and Al Porche, a readjustment counselor for the Vets Center in Manchester, New Hampshire.

The Story of Bill W. and Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous started out in 1935 with the meeting of Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith, two alcoholics who found that through fellowship and following a 12-step program of recovery, could stop their drinking. Almost 70 years later, Alcoholic Anonymous has 100,000 groups and 2 million members worldwide. Mike Arnold's guest is Susan Cheever, author of "My Name is Bill: Bill Wilson - His Life and the Creation of Alcoholics Anonymous".

The Science and Lore of Maple Syrup

New Urbanism

Throughout the country, communities are popping up under a new development style called "Traditional Neighborhood Design"... densely built, walkable commuties with safer streets, neighborhood parks, a wide range of housing styles and costs and neighborhood parks. Clark Brook, the first TND neighborhood in New England will break ground this spring in Rochester, New Hampshire. We'll look at the benefits and criticism of this new idea of urbanism. Walking to Vermont
