State Retirement Fund Chair Under Fire

The New Hampshire Retirement System decides how and when to invest some 4-point-4 billion dollars for the benefit of retired state workers. To date, the fund has had a good track record. But now, the chairman of the board that oversees the retirement system has come under scrutiny for alleged conflict of interest. And, as NHPR's Josh Rogers has learned, the chairman is also alleged to have used his position to solicit donations from companies doing business with the state.

New Hampshire 2005 Teacher of the Year

Randy Wormald has been known to dress up as Mathman, do the Pythagorean Rap and the Graphmaster Boogie, all in the interest of getting high school students interested in learning about math and science. Randy, or Mr. Worm as he's known, recently won the Disney Outstanding High School Teacher Award and is New Hampshire's most recent Teacher of the Year recipient. We'll talk with him about what it's like being a teacher these days and what it takes to get students interested in learning. Laura's guest is Randy Wormald, Math and Science Teacher for Belmont High School.

Top Dog

Police dogs are being used increasingly by police departments as a result of security concerns arising from 9/11. Their training's more advanced than ever and their effectiveness and dependability are extraordinary. We'll talk with John Usher, the head of Working Dog Foundation which trains many of New Hampshire's finest K-9's, and meet Chief Shawn Bernier of New Durham and his dog Louie who took top honors in a recent training competition.
