Thirty some years after the end of the US war in Vietnam, a committee of lawmakers in Washington has voted to give the country the same trading status as America's other partners. Tonight on NHPR's Front Porch, we'll take a closer look at Vietnam through the eyes of a New Hampshire economist. Russ Thibeault recently spent a month there and returned with a changed view about the Southeast Asian country's culture and how it could change in the face of Westernization. We'll talk with him about his experiences, and we'll talk with Kimberly Elliott, senior analyst for the Institute for International Economics and at the Center for Global Development. She'll explain what a new trade status with the US could mean for Vietnam, and how it could affect it's application to the World Trade Organization.
