ArchivesWarm Winter's Impact on the North CountryBy Laura Knoy on Wednesday, January 17, 2007.Has Old Man Winter come too late – for the North Country? Sure, it’s cold this week, and at ski areas the man-made snow finally won’t melt, but North of the Notches, the economic pain of our snowless, warm winter is sharp – and leaders there are wondering how – and whether – they’ll be able to ride this season out. We're talking to a variety of people and places that have been directly impacted by the weather up in the North Country. Laura's guests are Barb Tetreault, reporter for the Berlin Daily Sun and Edith Tucker, reporter for the Coos County Democrat. We'll also hear from Dr. David Brown, New Hampshire State Climatologist; Paul Bergeron, President of the Pittsburg Ridge Runners Snowmobiling Club and Owner of Ramblewood Cabins and Campground; Martha Wilson, Public Relations Manager for the Mount Washington Hotel; Chris Ellms, General Manager of the Ski Area for Bretton Woods and the Mount Washington Resort and Peter Rivier, Executive Director of the Coos Economic Development Corporation. |
