ArchivesThe Latest Buzz: Annie Lynch and the BeekeepersBy Virginia Prescott on Tuesday, February 19, 2008.There are a swarm of indie bands with “bee" in their names: The Bees, Band of Bees, The Bird and the Bee, She Keeps Bees... Trying to sort them all out can get a little confusing. But here at Word of Mouth we happened upon a “bee” band that’s really flown under the radar.
Annie Lynch and the Beekeepers is a group of undergrads at the Berklee School of Music in Boston. They play songs that sound old-fashioned, yet are totally new and fresh. Annie Lynch joined Word of Mouth host Virginia Prescott by phone to talk about the resurging interest in folk music among young people, the collapse of bee colonies around the world that inspired the band's name, and how they bring instruments like a mandolin, accordion, clarinet, and musical saw together. You can catch Annie Lynch and the Beekeepers live this Friday and Saturday, February 22nd and 23rd, at Sunflower’s Café in Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire.
