A North Country Hospital is Ailing

The nation's economic problems have a long reach.

And those problems may begin affecting the health of residents in the most northern part of the state.

Many of them depend on the tiny Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook.

But the hospital's health is a little fragile itself.

Activists Want Congress to Change Bankruptcy Laws Dealing With Mortgages

Lawmakers in the U.S. House are set to vote on a measure that would change how bankruptcy courts handle troubled mortgages.

Currently judges can work out payment plans for other big ticket items like yachts and second homes.

They can even lower the principle of a loan.

But federal law shuts out homeowners from that kind of relief.

Towns Worry About Loss of State Revenue

Tempest Over a Treasurer

A political tempest in Grafton County seems to be dying down.

Last November, thanks to support from Dartmouth and Plymouth State students, a 20-year-Dartmouth junior was elected country treasurer. The Democrat ousted a long-time Republican.

Critics claimed she was too young, that the college student from Montana didn't understand county policy. One Republican commissioner reportedly tried to strip Sievers of her authority. But now it looks like it might work out.

Ice Racing for Kids
