A bill calling for 45 mile per hour day time speed limits on all Granite State lakes and rivers scored a big victory earlier this month when House lawmakers gave it the thumbs up. According to a recent poll, a majority of New Hampshire residents support limiting how fast boats can travel, but it will take a majority of the state’s Senators to turn the proposal into law. And how they feel about the idea remains unclear. We’ll take a look at the debate.

Greetings Laura, Thank You

Greetings Laura,

Thank You for taking the time to discuss this bill. I strongly oppose the speed limit bill on NH lakes. As a lifelong boater in New Hampshire I have seen the number of boats increase dramatically. Yes there are dangerous situations that arise. I see it every weekend. Time and time again it is uneducated boaters violating safe passage rules and basic safety concepts. Speed is not the problem. A speed limit on the lake would increase shoreline erosion. Provide a false sense of security to boaters and do nothing to increase safety.
Thank You for your time,
Mark Novo
