Has Old Man Winter come too late – for the North Country? Sure, it’s cold this week, and at ski areas the man-made snow finally won’t melt, but North of the Notches, the economic pain of our snowless, warm winter is sharp – and leaders there are wondering how – and whether – they’ll be able to ride this season out. We're talking to a variety of people and places that have been directly impacted by the weather up in the North Country. Laura's guests are Barb Tetreault, reporter for the Berlin Daily Sun and Edith Tucker, reporter for the Coos County Democrat. We'll also hear from Dr. David Brown, New Hampshire State Climatologist; Paul Bergeron, President of the Pittsburg Ridge Runners Snowmobiling Club and Owner of Ramblewood Cabins and Campground; Martha Wilson, Public Relations Manager for the Mount Washington Hotel; Chris Ellms, General Manager of the Ski Area for Bretton Woods and the Mount Washington Resort and Peter Rivier, Executive Director of the Coos Economic Development Corporation.

I was on hold to weigh-in

I was on hold to weigh-in during the discussion but time ran out. What needed to be discussed is the fact that NH is a small state and according to a 2003 report released by the National Environmental Trust titled First in Emissions, Behind in Solutions , New Hampshire is ranked 45th among U.S. States for greenhouse gas emissions.
The only mention of 'solutions' was a few orgs installing compact fluorescent bulbs. Guess what, global warming is global. No matter what folks do in-state wil not have any measurable impact on the big picture. We have 2 US senators, the same number as big polluting states located in the mid-west and Califormia. What we must do is demand and expect that our NH senators sent to DC will act on the behalf of our business and citizenry. Senator Gregg has been a leader to reduce global warming; Sununu has failed to support anything.
