Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton targeted energy and global warming at a forum in Portsmouth Tuesday.
NHPR Correspondent Roger Wood reports.
The Democratic presidential candidate unveiled what she called a new initiative to battle global warming.
Speaking to some 300 people at Pease International Tradeport, Clinton called for the creation of a green building fund. It would be aimed at helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the years ahead.
"A billion dollars a year that will be given in grants to states and localities to help make buildings more energy efficient, and, by the way, put 50 thousand people to work."
She also proposed a $50 billion energy strategy fund to develop alternatives to oil. It would be paid for by new taxes on oil companies, especially those that reap windfall profits.
Her plan would also impose royalties on oil companies that drill on public lands.
