For many people, the grass seems to be greener on the other side in terms of who is running for President in the 2008 election. While the field seems to be pretty well set on both the Democratic and Republican sides, there is still a yearning by some for another option not on the table…another person who, if they tossed their hat into the race, might prove to be that mythical "white horse" candidate, riding in to save the day at the last minute. Names tossed out have included Al Gore, Newt Gingrich, and Fred Thompson, who just entered the race officially. We'll look at the role of white horse candidates in past elections, the psychology behind the public's desire for something new, and who this year's white horse candidates may be.

AL GORE

I'm a former registered Republican who believes the present administration is the worst ever.
However, I find Hillary un-inspirational, I do not trust that she will un-do the damage to our constitutional rights done by the Bush administration and will merely re-direct influence for cash from the Bush dynasty to the Clinton dynasty. I also believe she is too polarizing to sway right leaning centrists who have seen her pilloried for 16 years. Obama may be too inexperienced to get elected, Edwards too much of an empty suit.

AL GORE is the one national level politician I trust to undo the Bush damage. He wrote the book on global warming awareness, understands it's impact on our economy and health, and how global warming could be impacted in turn by genuine education reform.

America needs Al Gore, and we need him now.

To be honest, I don't know

To be honest, I don't know enough about her, but I wonder about the viability of a Barbara Boxer candidacy. I'm all in favor of a female president, but I am so opposed to Hillary that I can't imagine a scenario in which I'd be willing to vote for her. From what little I know, Boxer seems like she might have a real appeal to the voters, and I wonder whether she has expressed any aspirations, if not for this cycle, maybe in the future.

In some sense, I wish there were someone who thought like Kucinich, but looked like Romney. I honestly think Kucinich will be overlooked by primary voters because he's short and looks a little funny (Elvish?). I don't think it's his substance that's going to keep him from the nomination. If he looked like Romney, or like Edwards, or like Obama, I think he'd be top tier in a second!
