A Letter From Iraq Recognized By New Hampshire National Guard
By Mark Bevis on Tuesday, November 20, 2007.
Dear Mark, I want to personally thank you for NH Public Radio's extraordinary coverage of the 3643rd Security Force throughout its year deployment in Iraq. By my count, the weekly series, "A Letter From Iraq," aired the personal stories of at least 35 men and women, who served with the company. I understand that it was one of the most popular locally produced programs among your listenership. I am especially grateful for your efforts, Mark, after learning that your inspiration to create the series came from one of our soldiers who appeared in "The War Tapes." You have certainly gotten to know our citizen-soldiers and helped others across the state gain a better appreciation of why we serve. It has been an unprecedented time for our N.H. National Guard. More than 75 percent of our citizen soldiers and airmen have deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as answered the call at home in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and NH's floods. The impact has been profound, yet I am immensely grateful for the support of our communities in the face of such tremendous sacrifice. Your work has played crucial role in that equation. Sincerely, |
