When John Edwards took the stage to talk to his supporters on primary night, he never mentioned that he might have been disappointed with coming in third.

Instead, the North Carolina senator told his audience he had no intention of quitting the race.

"I want to be absolutely clear to all of you who have been devoted to this cause, and I want to be clear to the 99 percent of Americans who have not yet had the chance to have their voices heard, that I am in this race to the convention, that I intend to be the nominee of my party." (cheers)

Edwards supporters had hoped their candidate would do better in New Hampshire, to follow up his second place showing last week in Iowa.

The former North Carolina senator is headed to South Carolina, where he won the Democratic presidential primary in 2004.
