Cloudy with a Chance of Marketing
By Jacob Eaton on Sunday, May 18, 2008.
Francisco Guerra, a special-effects entrepreneur and former magician, has developed a way to make “clouds” in the shape of corporate logos. He calls them Flogos. His machine produces specially-formulated white foam that he fills with air and helium. The foam can be molded to any shape, and then floated into the sky just like a cloud. The Chicago Tribune reports that Flogos can travel as far as 30 miles and as high as 20,000 feet. They pop like an ordinary balloon when they hit a tree, but Guerra maintains their simple make-up of water, air and a soapy agent makes them environmentally friendly. So far only a few people have seen Flogos in action, but Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and several major-league baseball teams already have plans to fill the skies with their puffy logos. Click here to watch Flogos in action in a promo video. You can also watch trial flights at the Flogo website. About usWord of Mouth is all about what's new.
