A lot of folks in Berlin don't like it, but Laidlaw is a big step closer to buying the boiler of the old pulp mill.

The Laidlaw Energy Corporation has announced it would soon be closing on its deal to buy the old Fraser pulp mill in Berlin.

Laidlaw wants to build a bio-mass energy plant there.

Berlin Mayor David Bertrand says from what he can tell, city residents are not too happy about the deal.

"Most people don't want to see the continuation of the smokestack in the center of town. They're looking for something different to occur on that property, and whatever does happen is going to define the character of Berlin for generations to come."

So NHPR's Mark Bevis checked in with Louis Bravakis to see what the future might bring to the City That Trees Built.

Bravakis is Laidlaw's Vice President of Planning and Development.
