Monadnock Music Festival

By Avishay Artsy on Thursday, August 7, 2008.

On Thursday's show, we heard from the modern music ensemble So Percussion and their new project Music for Trains.

A founding member of that group, Doug Perkins, will also be performing this weekend. You may remember his appearance on Word of Mouth back in April - he curated the Festival of New Musics at Dartmouth College. If you’re in southwest New Hampshire this weekend, be sure to check out Doug’s performance at the Monadnock Music Festival in Peterborough. The program, "On the Beaten Path," will be held on August 9 at 8pm, and promises a compelling journey into the spectacular sound-world of percussion instruments, from the vibraphone to Djembe drums. Pulitzer-Prize winning composer Joseph Schwantner, who now lives in Keene, will be the guest speaker.

In addition, Doug will be recording one of Schwantner's marimba solos for an internationally-distributed radio program called Art of the States, which brings music from American composers and performers to listeners around the world.
