Super Heroes, Super Villains, and Disability
By Virginia Prescott on Tuesday, September 23, 2008.
What do the super heroes of developmentally disabled artists look like?
An upcoming exhibit called Super Heroes, Super Villains takes a look at the cast of characters, both well known and not so well known, that inhabit the pages of comic books and the big screen. Leaping from the pages of comic books in a single bound, Oakland, Calif.-based independent producer Andrew Reissiger reports on super heroes, super villains, and a group of artists with developmental disabilities who blur the lines between fiction and non-fiction. I am an artist and author who is Deaf and has Cerebral Palsy. When my interpreter shared this story with me, I was pleased to hear that there are others like me who share a passion for Superheroes with Disabilities. I have been writing and illustrating my own stories about this theme for several years and was astonished to find there is such an interest out there. Thank you for doing this story.
I would also like to request a manuscript of this specific broadcast if possible.
Thanks again,
Gina C., Bow, NH
