Rock Band T-Shirts

By Virginia Prescott on Tuesday, September 23, 2008.

When I was in high school, you could only get rock t-shirts at concerts. I proudly wore mine as a badge of honor. I had one emblazoned with Van Halen's logo, not to mention my souvenir tee from the Black Sabbath/Blue Oyster Cult "Black and Blue Tour." But I date myself.

Today, rock band t-shirts are sold at major retailers to kids who weren't even alive when classic rock was born.

When music writer Johan Kugelberg was growing up in Sweden, wearing the Sex Pistols or Ramones on your chest was its own act of rebellion. He's the author of the book Vintage Rock T-Shirts. Andrea Silenzi produced this piece for the Studio 360 series "Design for the Real World." Click here to listen.
