The Unretired

By Virginia Prescott on Wednesday, January 14, 2009.

Aaahhh, retirement! Travel. Golfing. Gardening. The dream of a secure retirement rewards a lifetime of work.

But today, many people on the brink of retirement see that dream evaporating along with their pension funds and 401(k)'s. A number of Americans in the 55-plus set are putting aside plans for the golden years. Instead, they’re polishing up their resumes and jumping back into the job market for another five or ten years. That’s if they can find a job. They are America’s unretired. Today on Word of Mouth, we look at what happens when the nest egg breaks. We’re joined by Dr. Steven Sass from the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College, and Patrick Rafter, vice president of communications for RetirementJobs.com.
