Global Voices: Storms in Madagascar, Dreams of Citizenship
By Virginia Prescott on Tuesday, January 27, 2009.
A week ago today, scenes of jubilant citizens in a number of African countries flashed across television screens around the world. But while they celebrates the inauguration of President Barack Obama, a tropical storm was heading for Madagascar, a huge island nation in the Indian Ocean. The cyclone affected some 40,000 people and opened the floodgates for a political storm. That's just one of the stories that's winding its way across the blogosphere. Deborah Dilley is here to explain. She's a writer and editor for Global Voices Online, a website that keeps track of what people are talking about on blogs all over the world.
