A Seacoast Artist Rediscovered
By John Walters on Tuesday, December 4, 2001.
listen: No audio currently available. Order on CD (pdf).
In the early 20th century, Edmund Tarbell was known around the world as an American master of impressionism. But as the world of art was going through rapid change, he stayed with his style and approach. His place in art history grew smaller and today he's little known outside New England. Now, for the first time in more than 60 years, his art is the subject of a major exhibition at the Currier Gallery of Art in Manchester. Joining us to talk about the exhibit is its curator and gallery director, Susan Strickler and Tarbell's grandson, Edmund Tarbell II. Find out more at www.currier.org
