Lempster to Celebrate Wind Farm

By Elaine Grant on Thursday, June 18, 2009.

Company officials and politicians are hoping for a windy – but sunny day on Friday when they’ll hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Lempster wind farm.

The project is the first commercial wind farm in New Hampshire.

NHPR’s Elaine Grant has more.

Iberdrola Renewables, the company that brought the wind farm to Lempster, is giving the public an up close and personal look at the 400-foot giants on Friday.

Spokesman Paul Copleman says the dedication ceremony will be a festive affair that will give people the opportunity to see and touch the turbines.

And he says a lot of people are watching the project closely.

“Being the first project in NH and one of the few projects of this size and technology in New England, I think a lot of people across New England are looking at this project as an example of what can be done to bring the type of economic development and clean energy to their community.”

The 12 wind turbines generate enough electricity to power 10,000 homes.

Iberdrola sells all of the power to PSNH, which in turn sells 10 percent of it to the New Hampshire Electric Co-op.

Lempster to Celebrate Wind Farm

I heard about this on this afternoon's newscast and I would like to attend. However, no times were given during the segment for the ceremony nor are they listed on the NHPR website. The address would also be nice; you shouldn't list it in the radio segment but it should be posted on the site. I realize the news department is understaffed and underfunded but "where" and "when" are part of any basic news story.

I'd love to be there for the open house, but no time was giving in the Elaine Grant story. Can you help?
Thanks, Bill Adams
