New Hampshire Receives $10M in Federal Energy Funding
By Kathryn Wells on Thursday, June 25, 2009.
State efforts to boost the local economy and develop “green” industry got some help from the White House: the Department of Energy is sending the state $10 million to implement plans to create and retain jobs in energy efficiency and renewability. NHPR's Kathryn Wells reports. This cash means the state has now received a full 50 percent of what it can expect in energy funding under the federal stimulus bill. New Hampshire is one of just four states to share over $154 million in Recovery Act spending aimed at state energy programs; California, Missouri and North Carolina were the others. Laura Richardson of the New Hampshire Office of Energy and Planning says the money is one more step toward New Hampshire's long-term energy goals. "There will be a lot of change happening in the coming decades regarding energy in New Hampshire, and this is a great way to really get the ball rolling and say this is a priority for us." Washington says the rest of the funding will be released to New Hampshire once it meets accountability standards required by the Recovery Act. In total, New Hampshire is set to receive more than $25 million for energy programs. Post a comment
