Food, Inc.

By Virginia Prescott on Thursday, July 23, 2009.

The documentary Food, Inc. opens this weekend at the Red River Theatres in Concord. A creation of Emmy-award winning filmmaker Robert Kenner, the film throws open the barn doors on the American food industry. It argues that behind the farm-fresh food images we get on supermarket labels is a highly mechanized industry controlled by a small number of corporate interests.

I will be doing a question-and-answer session with a man who's bucked that trend, Stonyfield Farms president Gary Hirshberg, who's featured in Food, Inc. The Q&A will be after the film’s showings on Friday. Those shows have been sold out, but you can still find tickets for Saturday and beyond at Red River Theatres.org. Thank you for spotlighting such a wonderful local band!

Thank you for posting this! I hope the film gets more coverage because it was quite eye-opening and discussion-provoking. Reaffirms that we should support our local farmers and farmer's markets. Outrageous that Monsanto has such a heavy hand in our FDA.
