The Gooey Decimal System

By Virginia Prescott on Wednesday, August 5, 2009.

Nothing eases the pain of an overdue notice like…ice cream. In fact, one librarian in New Jersey is so passionate about Ben & Jerry’s that he is petitioning for a new flavor of library-themed ice cream.

Andy Woodworth’s Facebook page contains a list of suggestions for new varieties. Favorites include The Gooey Decimal System, which is dark fudge with caramel swirls in hazelnut ice cream. Others like The Malt Whitman, Sh-sh-sh-sherbet, and A Wrinkle in Lime sound like something I could dig into.

I think that for a radio organization that claims to be non-commercial, every single story IS a commercial for a special interest like the dairy industry this one promotes.
Perhaps if children saw the inside of a calf factory farm where baby male calves are sent after being stolen from THEIR mothers, children would switch to alternatives. It's an outrage that we lie and hide the truth from them...
Cow milk theft is not only brutal and mean to calves and cows, but also to children. According to many medical and nurtition experts, cow milk increases risks for breast, prostate, ovarian cancers, obesity, heart disease, diabetes and much more.
The studies show that the nations consuming the most dairy, ice cream and all of it, have the highest, not lowest rates of osteoporosis.
With millions of Americans waiting for organ transplants, one might consider that what is being put in them is important.
Can I really live in a country that sacrifices its own young to sell ice cream and dairy and the media is complicit due to the power of the industry?
WORSE, the USDA uses MY tax dollars to fund this grotesque industry that turns mother cows into hamburger after she is raped, repeatedly impregnated, only to have her own babies taken for a product that makes human babies ill.
