Free Books for Underprivileged Kids

By Alex Goldmark on Wednesday, October 14, 2009.

Teaching a child to read is a problem for many American families. Many have few books. They simply can’t spend five to twenty dollars on reading materials. An innovative after-school program in Manhattan’s East Harlem neighborhood is jumping that hurdle.

Sister Power has arranged for book publishers to provide copies of new children’s books free of charge. Children can read the books at a storefront library. If they like the book, they can keep it. World Vision Report’s Alex Goldmark brings us the story.
