Berlin Walls of the 21st Century
By Jen Nathan on Monday, November 9, 2009.
![]() The Berlin wall crumbled twenty years ago today, but that doesn’t mean that physical barriers between opposing regions and countries have gone the way of the dodo. Foreign Policy magazine released its list of the Berlin walls of the 21st century. The barbed-wire “separation barrier” between Israel and the Palestinian territories is at the top of the list. The fence that runs along the U.S. / Mexico border came in second, followed by the demilitarized zone that divides North and South Korea came and the Wagah border crossing between India and Pakistan. Their last pick is a bit more esoteric: the “great firewall of china” that filters what can be read and published online. Do you see any omissions in Foreign Policy’s round up of the Berlin Walls of today? If so, let us know and we’ll share your thoughts on the air.
