A Berlin steel company that is in bankruptcy is negotiating with several buyers and a sale is possible early next year.

Earlier this year Isaacson Structural Steel filed for Chapter 11 voluntary bankruptcy protection.

In a court filing it said it owed about $3 million to its top 20 creditors.

Northern Pass Asks AG To Help It Get Balsams Route

Credit Chris Jensen for NHPR

The Northern Pass project isn’t ready to give up on running its power lines near the Balsams Resort in the Dixville Notch.

Earlier this month the Tillotson Corp. announced it was selling a conservation easement for about 5,800 acres of land around the Balsams to the Forest Society.

Republicans Eye Primary with Economic Fears in Mind

As we all know, the upcoming presidential election is about the economy and jobs.

So the economic fears and hopes of the electorate in early-voting states like Nevada and New Hampshire will play a significant role in who emerges from the GOP pack.

More families in New Hampshire can now get help with their fuel bill this winter.

Congress increased funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, this week.

New Hampshire will receive a total of $26 million, rather than the $14.7 million dollars originally allotted.

That original appropriation forced Community Action Agencies to target the money to families of four earning less than $28,000.

Other low-income households were placed on a waiting list.

While taking a break from the online portion of my Christmas shopping the other day, I discovered a colorful conversation ballooning on Facebook about a disgruntled minority that isn’t part of the 99 percent. That is, the overwhelming percent of all Christmas chores thought, bought and wrapped by the women of the household. This, of course, was not a conversation backed by facts or data, but an informal survey based more likely on the spirit of Christmas exhaustion.

The non-profit organization Americans Elect is making waves by petitioning for a national, online nominating process that would offer an alternative to the state-by-state primary nominating process. This isn’t the first – nor the only conversation about the relevance of holding early contests in small states, but brings to light a conundrum for lesser known and lesser funded candidates.
