Korva Coleman

Korva Coleman is a newscaster for NPR.

In this role, she is responsible for writing, producing, and delivering national newscasts airing during NPR's newsmagazines All Things Considered, Morning Edition, and Weekend Edition. Occasionally she serves as a substitute host for Talk of the Nation, Weekend All Things Considered, and Weekend Edition.

Before joining NPR in 1990, Coleman was a staff reporter and copy editor for the Washington Afro-American newspaper. She produced and hosted First Edition, an overnight news program at NPR's member station WAMU-FM in Washington, D.C.

Early in her career, Coleman worked in commercial radio as news and public affairs directors at stations in Phoenix and Tucson.

Coleman's work has been recognized by the Arizona Associated Press Awards for best radio newscast, editorial, and short feature. In 1983, she was nominated for Outstanding Young Woman of America.

Coleman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard University. She studied law at Georgetown University Law Center.

Day Of Mourning For Slain South African Miners

Mine workers attend a memorial service in South Africa Thursday, Aug. 23, for miners killed last week by police officers.

More than a thousand people turned out for a huge memorial service for the 34 miners killed by police at a South African platinum mine last Thursday. Questions are still being raised as how the tragedy occurred. Police say they fired in self defense on miners armed with machetes and clubs; miners say they were running from tear gas that police had thrown at them.

British Man Who Lost Right To Die Case Is Dead

Tony Nicklinson received his wish today. After losing a long court battle to get doctors to help him legally end his life, the 58-year-old profoundly disabled man passed away from 'natural causes'; one of them may have been a broken heart.

Ethiopia announced the death of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi on Tuesday, August 21.

Ethiopia's longtime ruler, prime minister Meles Zenawi has died of an undisclosed illness. He was 57. Meles, as he is known, was a long-time ally of the U.S. and seen as a strong bulwark against terrorism.

An expert panel for the U.N. concludes that both Syrian government troops and its allied militias have committed crimes against humanity in the country's civil war.

Some of the enumerated war crimes include murder, torture, rape and indiscriminate attacks against civilians. The Syrian rebels also committed the same war crimes, but the U.N. expert panel found these abuses didn't occur as frequently or against as many people.
