As autumn progresses, it’s getting to be time to turn up the thermostat, and pile on the blankets. Or maybe not. On today’s show, we consider the benefits of being cold. And, we explore the curious history of one of sports’ key beverages: Gatorade.

Listen to the full show.

The History of Gatorade

Neil Amdur is the president and owner of the multimedia company, Amdur Productions and former sports editor for The New York Times. He co-directed, along with David Beilinson, ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentary on the history of Gatorade: 30 for 30 Shorts: The Sweat Solution

The Bad Plus

The Bad Plus is a rare bird in the music world – an accessible jazz band that still has room for experimentation.  The band is Ethan Iverson on piano, David King on drums, and Reid Anderson on bass - and you can see them perform with Joshua Redman at Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire on Tuesday, October13th.

The Benefits of Being Cold

James Hamblin is a senior editor at the Atlantic. He writes their monthly health column, hosts the video series If Our Bodies Could Talk and shows us that being cold and weight loss aren’t as separate as they seem.
