Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina has served in the Senate since 2002, where he has focused mainly on foreign policy and military issues.
Before being elected to the Senate, he served eight years in the U.S. House.
Graham has also served as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Air Force, the South Carolina Air National Guard, and the U.S. Air Force Reserve, attaining the rank of colonel.
Graham has positioned himself as an advocate of strong national defense and an aggressive foreign policy. He also has a reputation for negotiating deals with Democrats in the Senate and has often been at odds with Tea Party-aligned Republicans.
Graham announced his candidacy for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination on June 1, 2015.
