Republican U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte and challenger Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan have agreed to six debates in the race for U.S. Senate.
But the two candidates are already tussling over whether to add one more to the list.
Ayotte challenged Hassan to a debate focused specifically on the issues of national security and foreign policy.
Hassan declined, saying those topics are likely to be a significant part of each debate.
The candidates will meet for their first debate Sept. 30 in Conway hosted by the Mount Washington Valley Economic Council.
Three of the debates will be broadcast on live TV: Oct. 3 on NECN, Oct. 27 on NH1, and Nov. 2 on WMUR.
They will also take part in an Oct. 25 NHPR and Business and Industry Association Radio Debate.
The schedule was released prior to today’s state primary, where Ayotte is facing a challenge from former state Senator Jim Rubens.
