Celebrating Bees (And Other Pollinators) In New Hampshire

We may be hearing a lot about bees this week. It's national pollinator week - a chance to talk about the important role pollinators play in agriculture and the environment. And in New Hampshire, several organizations are planning events

As the populations of pollinators decline, national organizations like the Pollinator Partnership are working to raise awareness about the bats, bees, and butterflies that pollinate our crops.

Val Dolcini is President and CEO of Pollinator Partnership. He says scientists now know the decline is largely the result of the overuse of chemicals and increasing scarcity of habitats. And there's a direct connection to our food supply.

"One out of every three bites of food in our diet is brought to us by a pollinator and that makes ensuring a healthy pollinator population all the more important."

Groups like New Hampshire Audubon and the UNH bee lab are hosting events all week.
