The head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is in New Hampshire today promoting biomass energy.

EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy is set to tour Lavalley Middleton Building Supply's facility in Middleton this morning with New Hampshire U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen.

The EPA says the company's wood-fired boiler helped reduce its carbon footprint and retain 61 lumber manufacturing jobs.

McCarthy is highlighting the role of biomass energy as an element of the Obama Administration's plan to cut carbon emissions by tightening emissions standards for U.S. power plants and promoting alternative energy sources.
