The CIA and White House have launched varying responses to the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report on torture by the U.S. government, from outright dismissal by former vice president Dick Cheney to a tepid condemnation of torture by President Barack Obama, to a defense of so-called “enhanced interrogation techniques” by CIA head John Brennan.
Former California Congresswoman Jane Harman was the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee from 2002 to 2006, and raised concerns then about CIA interrogation practices.
She is now director of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and joins Here & Now’s Jeremy Hobson to share her reaction to the report and what the fallout might look like.
