Four Candidates Eyeing District 1 Executive Council Seat

Four candidates – three Republicans and one Democrat – are in the running for the vacant District 1 Executive Councilor seat.

The seat became vacant when longtime North Country Executive Councilor Ray Burton passed away earlier this month.

Among the Republicans eyeing the seat are former state Senator Joe Kenney and former U.S. Senate state director Mark Aldrich.

Former Belknap County Commissioner Christopher Boothby rounds out the GOP candidates.

The lone Democrat in the field so far is Michael Cryans of Hanover, who has served as a Grafton County Commissioner for 16 years.

The filing period for the seat ends on Monday.

With several Republicans on the ballot, a primary will be held on Jan. 21 to narrow the field.

A special election will follow on March 11, the same day many communities across the Granite State will be holding their Town Meetings.
