Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan is urging the state's congressional delegation to back President Barack Obama's proposal to significantly cut power plant emissions by 2030.
Hassan, who recently announced her candidacy for U.S. Senate, sent a letter Thursday afternoon to the delegation, saying it is clear that climate change is threatening the economy and people's way of life.
Hassan has supported the so-called Clean Power Plan since Obama announced it earlier this year. Her letter calls on New Hampshire's members of congress to do "whatever is in your power" to support the plan. Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte, whom Hassan hopes to unseat, has not taken a position on the proposal.
As a state senator, Hassan sponsored an effort to bring New Hampshire into a regional agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
