Boston Building Resources started in 1978 as a consumer co-op to help people insulate their homes more affordably.

Fifteen years later, the organization launched a nonprofit Reuse Center where high-quality used and surplus building materials can be donated and made available to low- and moderate-income homeowners.

Donated materials range from full cabinet sets to sinks, molding and hardware. At Saturday workshops, homeowners learn skills such as tiling and window repair. Residents not only can access more affordable materials — new and used — but also can develop skills to improve their homes and communities.
