How To Be A College Foodie: The Ultimate Dining Hall Hacks

Workman Publishing - http://www.workman.com/products/9781612124513/

Throughout her time at Dartmouth, Priya Krishna catalogued inventive twists on dining hall fare for her college newspaper. Shortly after graduation she began gathering together recipes for her new book Ultimate Dining Hall Hacks, which came out in June 2014.

There’s a couple of things to keep in mind when using the cookbook. For one thing, you really can do no wrong. There are no measurements or temperatures and almost any ingredient can be swapped out in favor of something else. And, it's all about convenience, no one function kitchen appliances here. It’s a valuable addition to any small kitchen, not just ones found in college dorms.

One of Priya's favorite recipes is for chocolate chip cookie dough. Added bonus: it's vegan and Salmonella-free.

You’ll need: Banana, oats or muesli, peanut butter, chocolate chips, cinnamon, salt, and maybe a little brown sugar depending on your tastes.

Assuming you're making this in a mug, not a kitchen bowl, the mix might look something like this.

Steps:

  1. Mash up half of the banana is a bowl.
  2. Mix in a handful of oats or muesli, then add a spoonful of peanut butter.
  3. Add in chocolate chips, cinnamon, sugar, and salt according to your tastes.
  4. Mix well and dig in.
