Joint House Committee Votes 23-22 To Kill Casino Bill

By a single vote, a special joint House committee has recommended killing a bill that would legalize a casino in New Hampshire. The House Ways and Means and Finance committees voted 23-22 Wednesday on a Senate bill that would allow up to 5,000 video slot machines and 150 table games.  Governor Hassan has made passage of a casino a priority. She says she’s encouraged by the closeness of the vote.

“I think momentum is growing for it, and we’ll be working very hard just to hear concerns of House members as we go forward this week, and make sure that we can talk with them about how those concerns are addressed, particularly in the amendments that the super-committee worked so hard on.”

Even with the recommendation to kill the bill, supporters of a casino continue to work on changes to try to win votes to pass it.

A full House vote could come as early as next week.
