As warmer weather has moved into New Hampshire, most of the state's more than 30 ski resorts have already closed. But Loon Mountain, Cannon Mountain and Mount Sunapee will stay open Saturday and Sunday, Bretton Woods will remain open through Monday, and Wildcat Mountain is planning to offer daily skiing through April 26.
Molly Mahar at Loon Mountain says this ski season only really hit its peak in the spring, well after the more traditional high points such as Christmas, New Year’s and Presidents Day.
“We had some tough weather over our big holiday periods, which can account for 20 percent of our business in the winter," Mahar said. "But the fact that we did have a nice strong spring, really turned things around.”
That strong spring was due largely to the heavy snow in February, which kept resorts busy through March and early April. Now, as ski season wraps up, resorts start preparing for summer activities, from outdoor recreation such as zipline tours to summer weddings. Mahar says Loon's wedding facilities are booked almost every weekend from Memorial Day through mid-October.
