N.H. Chapter Of Conservative Group Endorses House Finance Budget

The state’s chapter of Americans for Prosperity, a conservative advocacy group backed by the Koch brothers,  are behind the House Finance version of the state's spending plan, which passed committee along party lines Thursday.

The $11 billion budget trimmed hundreds of millions from Governor Maggie Hassan’s proposal including reducing spending for the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Transportation and University funding.

AFP State Director Greg Moore said the budget isn’t perfect but it is fiscally responsible.

“The House did a fantastic job of making New Hampshire more free market and more competitive, and forth and for most it takes out all the tax increases,” Moore said.

The plan removes tax increases including a cigarette tax as well as increasing the registration fee.

But Hassan calls these cuts “unnecessary,” adding that they will only downshift costs onto taxpayers.

After the full House votes on the budget next week, the Senate will have two months to work on its version of the budget.
