New Hampshire Attorney General Joseph Foster says he sees "no active role" for his office in investigating Phillips Exeter Academy's handling of sexual misconduct allegations at the elite prep school.
Rep. Katherine Prudhomme-O'Brien, a Derry Republican, recently sent a letter co-signed by 18 fellow legislators to the Attorney General's Office requesting their involvement in the investigation.
In the letter, Prudhomme-O'Brien states that she believes former Principal Tom Hassan and other Exeter officials may have intentionally covered up reports of sexual misconduct.
Foster's reply says he personally spoke with Police Chief William Shupe, and that he's confident in the Exeter Police Department and the Rockingham County Attorney's Office "should there be grounds for a prosecution."
Prudhomme-O'Brien tells WMUR-TV she's disappointed with Foster's response but wasn't surprised.
