N.H. Council on Diversity and Inclusion Holds Its First Meeting

Governor Chris Sununu opens up the first Council on Diversity and Inclusion meeting in the Executive Council Chambers.

Governor Chris Sununu’s new Council on Diversity and Inclusion held its first meeting Thursday evening.

One of the council’s objectives, as laid out by the governor, is to recommend changes to New Hampshire laws and policies which will advance equity in the state.

The council plans to hold public forums so that residents across the state can provide input.

But before that can happen, they have to figure out some logistics. That took up a lot of time in this first meeting.

Council member Pawn Nitichan is Executive Director with education non-profit City Year New Hampshire.

“I think that we are trying very hard to come up with structures and plans so that the listening part will happen hopefully very soon and broadly across our state,” Nitichan said.

Currently the council is considering holding sessions at the University of New Hampshire and at some state community colleges.

The next Diversity and Inclusion Council meeting is slated for Feb. 22.
