New Hampshire parents can rest assured that school bus drivers will show up for work this week.
But, beyond that, the picture is less certain.
A strike by drivers has been a possibility for weeks, as the union representing drivers in New Hampshire has been in a contract dispute with the bus company First Student over retirement payments.
At a meeting in Washington D.C. Wednesday, drivers agreed to postpone any job action until Tuesday, when the two parties are scheduled to next meet in Manchester.
First Student, which is headquartered in Ohio, has transportation contracts with dozens of New Hampshire school districts, including Belmont, Derry, Nashua and Salem.
Superintendent of the Salem School District Michael Delahanty says he’s hopeful a deal will be struck soon.
"The fact that its moved back here to New Hampshire is encouraging – it must mean people anticipate a good resolution," Delahanty said.
Salem is one of several districts that have issued warnings to parents and have made accommodations for students in case of a strike.
