NHPR Honors Our Volunteers

A bench has been erected and positioned on the grounds of the Pillsbury building in Concord in honor of Richard Edmunds, a twenty year New Hampshire Public Radio volunteer, and fellow NHPR volunteers.

Edmunds was one of the gracious volunteers who whole-heartedly dedicated his time to NHPR. Edmunds volunteered in the Underwriting department for 20 years and logged 3,490 hours of service to NHPR. He began volunteering in 1991 after retiring from his banking position and was a NHPR member since 1980.

Edmunds enjoyed helping others and working with accounting including treasury and bookkeeping. He was an active member and sang in the choir at the First Congregational Church.

The bench dedication ceremony is a memorial to Edmunds, and a tribute to the many hours of service by all the volunteers.

New Hampshire Public Radio has between 135 and 145 volunteers in various areas. Volunteers participate in Fund Drives taking pledges and/or packaging thank-you gifts to mail to listeners.

Nine volunteers staff the reception desk and greet and assist visitors to NHPR. Some of these volunteers have been here as long as eight years, or as little as one year.

Between eight and twelve interns work in various departments. and range from short or long-term durations of volunteering.

Some volunteers have been serving NHPR for a number of years in support areas or on special projects and events. Priscilla Malcolm has volunteered several days a week on The Exchange for over 5 years.

NHPR allows volunteers to gain skills, make contacts in the industry and put in community service hours while working with a great group of people.

The bench dedication ceremony will take place Aug. 2, 2012 from 2:15-2:30 at the corner of South Main Street and Pillsbury Street. Join us as NHPR staff members and volunteers dedicate our newly installed Volunteer Bench in honor of our loyal, dedicated volunteers.
