CONCERT BENEFITS HEATING FUEL FUND, LANCASTER
Friday December 18 7:00 PM St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Main Street. An informal concert offered by soprano Victoria Cole and pianist Allan DiBiase. Free admission with any donations going to the Heating Fuel Fund, which is a project of the Franconia Community Church in support of families who need help staying warm this winter. The 25 Trees of Christmas, are decorated and donated for viewing, and there is a silent auction to benefit local charities. Many, many local businesses donated the trees and decorations. A family event. All welcome.
LANCASTER OPEN MIC
Saturday December 19 6:00-9:00 PM Methodist Church Hall, Main Street. Third Saturday of each month. All types of music are welcome. Dancing is encouraged. THE LONGEST NIGHT BENEFIT FOR FOLKS WHO ARE HOMELESS, FRANCONIA
Monday December 21 6:00 PM through Tuesday December 21 6:00 AM Dow Field. Participants will spend the night "temporarily homeless”, raising awareness and supporting the mission of the Bancroft House in providing shelter for the North Country Homeless. Registration forms and pledge sheets will be e-mailed to anyone interested in participating in the event. Refreshments will be provided by Dunkin Donuts, Subway, and other local dining establishments. Shelter will be provided and tents are welcome. Winter weight sleeping bags are required. BATH LIBRARY BOOK CLUB DISCUSSES “THE DRY GRASS OF AUGUST”
Thursday January 14 5:00 PM Bath Public Library. On a scorching day in August 1954, 13-year-old Jubie Watts leaves Charlotte, NC, with her family for a Florida vacation. Crammed into the Packard along with Jubie are her three siblings, her mother, and the family’s black maid, Mary Luther. She could never have predicted the shocking turn their trip will take. Books may be picked up at the Bath Library; hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 9:00am to noon and 1:00pm to 5:00pm and Saturdays 9:00am to noon.
