Palestinians and Israel have blamed each other for breaking a seven-hour humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. Israel declared the temporary truce unilaterally, but only in parts of the territory.
Palestinians say that after the ceasefire started, an 8-year-old girl was killed and more than 20 people wounded when Israel bombed a refugee camp in northern Gaza. Israel says militants have shot more rockets into Israel. In Jerusalem, an Israeli man was killed when an excavator rammed into a bus in what Israeli police called a terror attack.
This latest failed attempt at a ceasefire came a day after the United Nations and United States sharply criticized an Israeli attack near a U.N.-run school in Gaza, in which Palestinians say at least 10 people died.
However, despite this international criticism, polls have shown that the majority of Jewish Israelis are in favor of the bombardment. The BBC’s Andy Hosken reports.
