Red Cross officials say the need for volunteers across New Hampshire and Vermont is critical, and they're holding a "disaster bootcamp" in the North Country to train new recruits.
The session runs Friday and Saturday in Gorham, New Hampshire. The boot camp is a fast track training opportunity for individuals interested in becoming an American Red Cross disaster responder.
It's a day-and-a-half-long training session and gives an opportunity for current disaster responders to brush up on their skills.
Red Cross officials say that the organization deploys volunteers in the New Hampshire and Vermont region to respond to disasters that displace families, on average, every 20 hours.
