Salem Officials Are Giving Directions to Disoriented Visitors

A GPS problem has been stymying the plans of some late summer visitors in the Salem area.

Officials in Salem have been swarmed with phone calls from residents. They say out-of-state visitors are getting lost and having to turn around in their driveways.

The visitors are trying to find Canobie Lake Park, an amusement park in Salem. But when they put that into their GPS, it's taking them to Arlington Pond in North Salem – 6 miles away.

Deputy Salem Police Chief Chad Clark says here’s how to fix that:

“Type in Canobie Lake Park on your GPS instead of Canobie Lake and it will bring you right to the front gate,” Clark said.

Clark says he’s not sure why this has been happening – but he speculates it probably has to do with a recent mapping error.
